People are just absolutely loving the show. It’s my first lead role in a TV series here in the United States, or I guess also in Thailand. Yeah, it’s definitely been a very good year with The Expanse. Well, this has been a pretty big year for you, no? Like, how did I end up there? That’s incredible. For most of The Expanse’s first season, everyone’s looking to track down the missing heiress, following her mysterious disappearance. The French-Thai actress plays Julie Mao on The Expanse, who leaves her family fortune behind on Earth to take up the good fight in the Asteroid Belt, only to unwittingly become the fuse that threatens to set off a war between the people of Earth, Mars and the Belt. ![]() But that’s not the only reason the show’s worth watching: there’s also up-and-coming star (and 2016 Crush List star) Florence Faivre. The result is a thrilling space drama that’s been called a worthy successor to Battlestar Galactica. Apparently, when mankind reaches for the stars, it tries to grab with both hands. ![]() Set some 200 years in the future and based on a series of best-selling novels, The Expanse takes place in a world where humanity has begun to colonize outer space, but instead of creating some Star Trek-like utopia, it just leads to a very 21st-century power struggle. If you just think of Syfy as the home to those flying shark movies and other equally improbably meteorological events (Arachnoquake, anyone?), you might be missing out on what critics and fans are calling the best new sci-fi show in years: The Expanse.
